Abstract
Identification of individuals at risk of sudden cardiac death and cardiovascular event remains a major challenge. Considering the limitation of left ventricular ejection fraction as a predictive marker, T-wave alternans (TWAs) can be a complementary parameter. TWAs, defined as a beat-to-beat fluctuation in ST-segment or T-wave morphology, have been an emerging, attractive approach for predicting cardiovascular mortality and sudden cardiac death. An extensive body of evidence supports the value of TWA monitoring for diverse clinical applications in arrhythmia risk assessment, and in guiding medical therapy and intervention, including an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator.
